🗺️ Planning Your Route

One of the easiest ways to explore these Hocus Pocus filming locations is by following a map instead of searching for each address individually. I’ve marked every location in this guide, including the walkable Salem stops and the Marblehead locations about 15–20 minutes away.

Most of the downtown Salem locations are easy to reach on foot, but Pioneer Village and the Marblehead stops require a little more planning. If you’re trying to see them all, it helps to decide how you’ll get around before you start.

📍 1. Allison’s House (Ropes Mansion)

The exterior of the Ropes Mansion was used as Allison’s family home in Hocus Pocus, and it’s one of the easiest filming locations to visit while exploring downtown Salem. Even without the movie connection, it’s worth stopping to see the historic mansion and take a photo from the sidewalk.

Don’t miss the gardens behind the mansion while you’re here. They’re free to visit and open daily from dawn to dusk, making this more than just a quick photo stop.

📍 2. Old Town Hall

Fans of Hocus Pocus will recognize Old Town Hall as the location of the Halloween party where the Sanderson Sisters perform “I Put a Spell on You.”

Built in 1816, Old Town Hall is one of Salem’s most recognizable historic buildings and sits right in the heart of downtown. Even if you’re only stopping for a photo, it’s an easy filming location to visit while exploring the surrounding Essex Street area.

📍 3. Salem Common

Salem Common appears briefly in Hocus Pocus and is an easy stop because you’ll likely pass through it while exploring downtown. It’s also a nice place to slow down for a few minutes before continuing to the next filming location.

📍 4. Jacob Bailey High School

Just across from Salem Common is the former Phillips Elementary School, which served as Jacob Bailey High School in Hocus Pocus. Fans will recognize the red brick exterior from several scenes, including Max’s first day of school and the sequence where the kids lure the Sanderson Sisters into the school’s kiln.

The interior scenes were filmed on a soundstage, and the building has since been converted into private residences. You can still see the recognizable exterior, but please enjoy it from the public sidewalk and don’t enter the property.

📍 5. Max & Dani’s House

One of the most recognizable Hocus Pocus filming locations is Max and Dani’s house. The Colonial home became the fictional Dennison family home after they moved from California.

The house is privately owned, so you can only view it from the public sidewalk. Be respectful of the residents and treat this as a quick photo stop rather than an attraction.

📍 6. Pioneer Village

The opening scenes set in 1693 were filmed at Pioneer Village, America’s first living history museum. The recreated colonial village provided the perfect backdrop for the Sanderson Sisters’ origin story and remains one of the most unique filming locations from the movie.

While it’s a bit farther from Salem’s downtown attractions, it’s well worth the short trip if you want to see where the story began.

Pioneer Village has seasonal hours and limited operating days, so check the schedule before your visit. Since it’s outside the walkable downtown route, this is a good stop to pair with the Marblehead filming locations.

🚗 Continue Your Adventure in Marblehead

Once you’ve finished the Salem locations, you’re only about 15–20 minutes from several more Hocus Pocus filming spots in Marblehead. With its narrow historic streets, colorful harbor, and centuries-old homes, Marblehead is worth the short drive even beyond its movie connection.

📍 7. Old Burial Hill

One of the movie’s most memorable locations is Old Burial Hill, where Billy Butcherson rises from his grave.

Overlooking Marblehead Harbor, this historic cemetery dates back to the 1600s and offers beautiful views of the town and waterfront. It’s still an active historic cemetery, so be respectful while visiting and stay on designated paths.

📍 8. Crocker Park

Finish your Hocus Pocus filming location tour at Crocker Park, which appears briefly in the movie.

Overlooking Marblehead Harbor, the park offers beautiful waterfront views and is a peaceful place to end your tour before heading back to Salem.
