Galveston in October 2026: Halloween Events, Festivals & Things to Do
Galveston in October offers a fun mix of beach weather, fall festivals, ghost stories, and Halloween events. The worst of the Texas summer heat has usually eased, but you can still get warm enough weather for the beach. It’s a fun time to experience a completely different side of the island.
Don’t expect colorful leaves and crisp sweater weather. Galveston’s version of fall is ghost tours after dark, Oktoberfest downtown, Halloween events, and maybe even a beach day.
Here are the October 2026 events and weekends I’d actually plan around.
Galveston October 2026 Events
October 9–11: Ghost Coast Festival
If haunted history and paranormal experiences are your thing, this may be the best October weekend to visit Galveston. Ghost Coast Festival celebrates the island’s famously haunted reputation with three days of paranormal events.
Haunted Pub Crawl — October 9
Kick off the weekend Friday night with a haunted pub crawl through the Historic Strand.
Ghost Coast Festival — October 10
Saturday is the main event at the historic League Kempner Mansion, with paranormal investigations, speakers, psychics, oddities, vendors, and other spooky experiences.
Ghost Tours & Haunted Experiences — October 11
Sunday wraps up the festival weekend with ghost tours, cemetery tours, haunted mansion experiences, and more opportunities to explore Galveston’s paranormal history.

💡 Worth the Plan Tip: October 11 is also a great day to explore the Strand or add a harbor cruise before your ghost tour.
October 17–18: ARToberFEST, CabooseFest & Hocus Pocus
October 17 is one of the most event-packed Saturdays of the month, with three very different ways to enjoy fall in Galveston.
ARToberFEST — October 17–18
ARToberFEST takes over Galveston’s historic downtown with more than 100 artists, live entertainment, food, and shopping. Its downtown location makes it easy to combine the festival with time exploring the Strand.
CabooseFest — October 17
Traveling with kids? CabooseFest at the Galveston Railroad Museum brings some traditional fall fun to the island with a pumpkin patch, hayrides, games, and family activities.
Hocus Pocus Movie Night at Menard House — October 17
Finish Saturday with a free outdoor showing of Hocus Pocus at the historic 1838 Menard House, Galveston’s oldest residence. It’s a fun way to add a little Halloween atmosphere to the evening.

💡 Worth the Plan Tip: You don’t necessarily have to choose between them. Spend part of Saturday at ARToberFEST, add CabooseFest if you’re traveling with kids, and finish the evening with Hocus Pocus at Menard House.
October 23–24: Island Oktoberfest & Mystical Parade of Boo
This weekend gives you a fun mix of traditional fall festival and Halloween atmosphere, with both events happening in downtown Galveston.
Island Oktoberfest — October 23–24
This longtime Galveston tradition at First Lutheran Church includes German food, live music, dancing, arts and crafts, and family activities. Admission is free, with festivities beginning Friday evening and continuing Saturday.
Mystical Parade of Boo — October 24
On Saturday, the Mystical Parade of Boo brings Halloween to Historic Downtown Galveston with costumes, decorated vehicles, and plenty of spooky-season fun.

💡 Worth the Plan Tip: Since both events are downtown, they’re easy to combine. Enjoy Oktoberfest during the day, spend some time exploring the Strand, and catch the Parade of Boo Saturday evening.
October 31: Halloween & Día de los Muertos in Galveston
Halloween falls on a Saturday in 2026, making the final day of October a fun time to be on the island.
Trick or Treat at Menard House — October 31
Families can stop by the historic 1838 Menard House, Galveston’s oldest residence, for trick-or-treating on Halloween evening. It’s a short event that’s easy to work into the rest of your Halloween plans.
Día de los Muertos Fiesta — October 31
Galveston’s Día de los Muertos Fiesta celebrates with a parade, live music and dancing, ofrendas, food, vendors, and other activities honoring Día de los Muertos traditions.
Planning to dress for the celebration? Browse Día de los Muertos costumes and accessories for ideas before your trip.

💡 Worth the Plan Tip: If you’re spending Halloween in Galveston, leave some time to simply explore the Strand and historic downtown. Halloween falling on a Saturday should make this one of the livelier nights of the month.
🍂 Which October Weekend Is Best for You?
If you have some flexibility with your dates, I’d choose your weekend based on the kind of trip you want.
Whichever weekend you choose, I wouldn’t fill every hour with scheduled events. Pick the things you really want to experience and leave yourself some time to explore Galveston.
If this is your first visit, my three-day itinerary can help you build the rest of your trip around the October events you choose.
| Weekend | Best For |
|---|---|
| Oct 9–11 | 👻 Paranormal & ghost fans |
| Oct 17–18 | 🎃 Families & variety |
| Oct 23–24 | 🍂 Best overall fall weekend |
| Oct 31 | 💀 Halloween |
👻 Explore Haunted Galveston
You don’t have to visit during Ghost Coast Festival to experience Galveston’s spooky side. Historic mansions, old hotels, cemeteries, and stories tied to the 1900 Storm have all contributed to Galveston’s reputation as one of Texas’ most famously haunted destinations.
Ghost tours run year-round, but October is an especially fun time to take one. You’ll find walking tours through the historic district, cemetery tours, haunted pub crawls, and even haunted experiences on the water.
Haunted Harbor Tours — Every Saturday in October
For something a little different, the Galveston Historical Foundation offers Haunted Harbor Tours every Saturday in October aboard the SEAGULL II. The 90-minute cruise combines harbor history with researched ghost stories while exploring Galveston’s waterfront. With only a few Saturdays in October, check availability before your trip.

💡 Worth the Plan Tip: October is one time I’d book your ghost tour ahead. If there’s a specific tour or time you want, don’t count on it still being available once you arrive.
Want to Try Ghost Hunting Yourself?

🏖️ Galveston Weather & Beach Days in October
Yes, you can still get beach weather in Galveston in October.
Early October can feel surprisingly summery, while later in the month generally brings more comfortable temperatures and cooler mornings and evenings. I wouldn’t plan the trip assuming you’ll spend every day swimming, but I also wouldn’t leave the swimsuit home if the forecast looks promising.
Even when it isn’t swimming weather, October can be much more comfortable for walking along the Gulf than the hottest part of summer.
Pack lightweight clothes for warm afternoons, a light layer for evenings and boat rides, and comfortable shoes for festivals and ghost tours. Most importantly, check the forecast right before your trip — Texas weather doesn’t always care what month the calendar says.
🏨 Where to Stay in Galveston in October
Where I’d stay depends on what kind of October trip you’re planning.
For festivals, ghost tours, and Halloween events: Look around the Strand and historic downtown. You’ll be close to many of the October activities and can spend more of your trip walking instead of moving your car.
For a beach trip with October events mixed in: Look along the Seawall. You’ll have easier access to the Gulf while still being a short drive from downtown.
Once you’ve chosen your October weekend, I’d check hotel availability. A festival or Halloween weekend can create very different demand than a random fall weekend.
💙 One Last Thought
Galveston isn’t going to give you colorful fall leaves or guaranteed sweater weather in October, and that’s part of what makes it fun.
Instead, you get Galveston’s version of fall: historic streets decorated for Halloween, ghost stories after dark, outdoor festivals, and maybe even a beach day.
Choose the event you most want to experience, reserve your ghost tour and hotel if you’re visiting during a busy weekend, and leave some room in your schedule for the things you don’t need a ticket for. Wander the Strand, walk along the Gulf, and just see where the island takes you.
