Looking for a little witchcraft, Salem history, or something uniquely magical? Here are my picks based on the experience you’re looking for.

📸 Best Photo Experience — Witch Pix

🔮 Best Mystical Experience — Tarot Reading

🛍️ Best for Shopping — Witchy Shops

🧙 Best Immersive Experience — The Witch House

🌙 Best Guided Experience — Witch Tour

🧹 Make Your Own Witch Broom

For something more hands-on than sightseeing, making your own broom is one of the Salem experiences I’d actually make time for. You choose the colors, ribbons, charms, and other details, so you leave with a witchy Salem souvenir you created yourself rather than something you simply bought in a shop.

📸 Dress Up for a Witchy Photo Shoot

Witch Pix witch costume photo experience in Salem Massachusetts

Witch Pix is admittedly a little over-the-top, but that’s part of why I think it’s so much fun. You dress up in elaborate witch costumes and pose in themed sets for a professional photo shoot. If you’re traveling with friends, family, or someone willing to embrace the witchy side of Salem with you, this is one of the more memorable souvenirs you can bring home.

🔮 Get a Psychic or Tarot Reading

Getting a tarot or psychic reading is one of those experiences that just feels right in Salem. You’ll see readers throughout downtown, with everything from quick walk-ins to longer private sessions. I wouldn’t necessarily choose the first one you pass. Look around and find a reader or style that appeals to you.

🕯️ Explore Salem’s Witchy Shops

Witchy shops are part of the Salem experience, whether you’re looking for crystals, tarot decks, herbs, candles, spell supplies, books, jewelry, or just a unique souvenir. HausWitch Home + Healing and Hex Old World Witchery are two you can check out, but honestly, part of the fun is wandering downtown and seeing which shops pull you in.

🧙‍♀️ Visit The Witch House

The Witch House is the only building still standing in Salem with direct ties to the 1692 witch trials. Once home to Judge Jonathan Corwin, it gives you a chance to step inside a piece of the real history behind Salem’s witch reputation.

I think it’s worth touring, but I wouldn’t stress if tickets don’t work with your schedule. Either way, it’s definitely worth stopping for a photo in front while you’re exploring downtown. It’s one of those unmistakably Salem sights you’ll be glad you saw in person.

👣 Take a Witch-Focused Salem Tour

A witch-focused walking tour is one of the best ways to explore Salem’s witch trial history, local legends, and modern witchcraft traditions. Some tours focus on the events of 1692, while others explore Salem’s present-day witch community.

I’ve compared the best options, including historical walking tours, modern witchcraft experiences, and evening tours, to help you find the right one.

👻 Try a Real After Hours Ghost Hunt

If you want something more hands-on than a traditional ghost tour, the After Hours Ghost Hunt at Gallows Hill is one of the more memorable experiences I’ve done in Salem. Instead of walking around listening to ghost stories, you actually use paranormal investigation equipment and participate in a ghost hunt underground.

I did this on one of my Salem trips and really enjoyed it. It felt completely different from the walking ghost tours I’ve taken, so I wouldn’t consider the two interchangeable. If you’re interested in paranormal investigating, I think this one is worth adding to your trip.

The experience is seasonal, lasts about 90 minutes, and popular dates can sell out, so check availability before your trip.

🏛️ Visit the Salem Witch Museum

The Salem Witch Museum is one of Salem’s most recognizable attractions, using presentations and exhibits to tell the story of the 1692 witch trials and explore how the image of the witch has changed over time.

I think it’s a must-do on your first trip to Salem, especially if you’re new to the history of the witch trials. It’s not something I feel the need to do every time I return, but I’m glad I experienced it and would recommend it to anyone visiting Salem for the first time.

🪦 Visit the Salem Witch Trials Memorial

The Salem Witch Trials Memorial honors the people who were killed during the 1692 witch trials, with stone benches bearing each victim’s name. It’s a quiet and important stop that adds perspective to the witch-themed attractions and experiences throughout modern Salem.

💙 One Last Thought

Salem’s witchy side is much more than the history of 1692. You can make a broom, dress up for a witchy photo shoot, browse modern witch shops, get a tarot reading, explore the history, or mix a little of everything into your trip.

You don’t need to do every witch-themed attraction in town. Pick a few that genuinely sound fun to you and leave time to wander. Salem is at its best when you aren’t rushing from one reservation to the next.
