🍂 Eureka Springs in October at a Glance
October is a popular time to experience Eureka Springs, with cooler weather, fall color in the Ozarks, and a full calendar of fall and Halloween events. The second half of the month is especially event heavy, so your experience can vary quite a bit depending on which weekend you choose.
If you’re visiting for a specific event, I’d book your accommodations early.

Voices from Eureka’s Silent City
October 15, 16, 17, 22 & 23, 2026
Voices from Eureka’s Silent City is an annual living history event held after dark in the historic Eureka Springs Cemetery. By lantern light, costumed actors portray people buried there and share stories from Eureka Springs’ past, bringing some of the town’s real characters and history back to life.
Tours begin at 5:30 p.m. and depart about every 20 minutes through 8:30 p.m.
Nightmare in the Ozarks Film Festival
October 21–24, 2026
Nightmare in the Ozarks is a four-day film festival at the historic Eureka Springs Auditorium featuring horror, thriller, dark comedy, and spooky sci-fi films. The century-old theater setting fits the theme perfectly, and the festival rolls right into Zombie Crawl weekend, making this one of the strongest October weekends for horror fans.
Eureka Springs Zombie Crawl
October 24, 2026
The Eureka Springs Zombie Crawl takes over downtown with a full afternoon of Halloween fun before the zombies hit the streets. Expect the Macabre Market, live entertainment, a zombie scavenger hunt, and plenty of elaborate costumes before the parade begins at 6 p.m.
You can dress up and join the parade or grab a spot along the route and watch. If Halloween is the main reason for your trip, this is the weekend I’d choose.

🎃 Halloween & Haunted Things to Do
Beyond the major events, October brings a few more seasonal activities, while Eureka Springs’ year round haunted attractions fit the month perfectly.
Halloween With the Rosses
Halloween With the Rosses at the Melonlight Theater is a 75 minute live show inspired by a 1960s sitcom Halloween episode, with comedy, dancing, costumes, and themed cocktails. Performances are scheduled on multiple dates throughout October 2026.
Rocky Horror Picture Show & Pass the Ammo Double Feature
October 30, 2026
Kick off Halloween weekend at the historic Eureka Springs Auditorium with a Tim Curry double feature. The night starts with Pass the Ammo, which was filmed at the Auditorium, followed by The Rocky Horror Picture Show with audience participation, pre-show festivities, and a costume contest.

Ghost Tours in Eureka Springs
Even if your dates don’t line up with a seasonal event, you can still get plenty of the spooky Eureka Springs experience with a ghost tour.
I’ve done both the Crescent Hotel Ghost Tour and a paranormal investigation at the Crescent, and I love that Eureka Springs has options ranging from haunted history and ghost stories to more hands-on paranormal experiences.
If you want to add one to your October trip, you can book a ghost tour or paranormal experience ahead of time.

🍁 Fall Colors in Eureka Springs
Fall color is another reason October is such a popular time to visit. Peak color varies each year, but mid to late October is generally the best window to target if fall foliage is important to you.
You don’t need to chase a particular viewpoint. The roads and wooded hills surrounding Eureka Springs provide plenty of fall scenery, and you’ll see color as you explore the area.
💡 Worth the Plan Tip: If fall color is a priority, I’d choose the second half of October, but I wouldn’t plan an entire trip around trying to predict one perfect peak weekend.

🍂 Worth the Short Drive: War Eagle Fair
October 15–18, 2026 | About 30 minutes from Eureka Springs
If you love a good fall craft fair, War Eagle Fair is worth the short drive from Eureka Springs. This Northwest Arkansas tradition dates back to 1954 and brings hundreds of artists and makers together along War Eagle Creek, with pottery, jewelry, quilts, woodworking, art, and other handmade goods.
The setting is part of the experience too, especially with the surrounding Ozarks in fall. It’s an easy addition to an October trip if you want to spend a few hours shopping and enjoying a classic fall festival atmosphere.
🌦️ October Weather & What to Pack
October can range from comfortable fall afternoons to chilly mornings and evenings, especially later in the month. Pack layers, a jacket or sweater, and comfortable walking shoes.
The shoes matter. Eureka Springs has steep hills, stairs, and uneven sidewalks, so plan your Zombie Crawl or Rocky Horror costume around shoes you can actually walk in too.
💡 Worth the Plan Tip: Check the forecast right before your trip. Early and late October can feel very different.
🏨 Where to Stay in Eureka Springs in October
October is a popular time to visit, so I’d book earlier than usual if you’re traveling during one of the major event weekends.
For the full haunted Eureka Springs experience, the 1886 Crescent Hotel is my pick. Known as one of America’s most haunted hotels, it has ghost tours, paranormal experiences, and plenty of history. I’ve stayed here, and the hotel really can become part of the trip rather than just a place to sleep.
The historic Basin Park Hotel has its own ghost stories, but its biggest advantage is location. It sits right in the heart of downtown, putting you within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, and many of the October events.

🗓️ Which October Weekend Should You Choose?
If your dates are flexible, I’d choose based on what matters most to you:
October 7–11: Best for live music and the Hillberry Music Festival.
October 15–18: Best for a classic fall weekend. See Voices from Eureka’s Silent City in Eureka Springs and make the short drive to the War Eagle Fair.
October 21–25: ⭐ My Pick for Halloween
Nightmare in the Ozarks, Voices from Eureka’s Silent City, and the October 24 Zombie Crawl all fall within this stretch.
October 30–31: Best if you want to spend Halloween weekend in Eureka Springs. Kick things off Friday night with the Rocky Horror & Pass the Ammo double feature.
If events aren’t your priority, choose the dates that work best for you. There’s plenty to enjoy in Eureka Springs in October without planning your entire trip around the event calendar.
💙 One Last Thought
Eureka Springs is the kind of place where you don’t need a packed itinerary to have a great trip. In October, I’d choose one or two events you’re excited about, then leave plenty of time to wander downtown, enjoy the fall scenery, and see what you find along the way.
Whether you come for the fall color, the spooky side of town, or a little of both, October is a great time to experience what makes Eureka Springs so much fun.
