Christmas Things to Do in Eureka Springs in 2026

1. Watch the Christmas Parade of Lights

When: Friday, December 4, 2026, at 6 PM

One of Eureka Springs’ most beloved holiday traditions is the annual Christmas Parade of Lights.

Historic downtown fills with illuminated floats, festive costumes, music, and holiday cheer as the parade winds through the town’s distinctive streets.

The Victorian buildings and glowing storefronts create a beautiful setting for an evening Christmas parade. It’s the kind of event that makes a small-town holiday getaway feel special.

The parade is free to attend, making it an easy addition to your weekend plans.

💡 Worth the Plan Tip: December 4–6 is my top weekend for visiting Eureka Springs at Christmas. You can enjoy the parade Friday evening and the Christmas Tour of Homes on Saturday.

2. Tour Historic Homes Decorated for Christmas

When: Saturday, December 5, 2026, from 2–6 PM

If you love historic homes and Victorian architecture, this is one of the Christmas events I’d plan an entire weekend around.

The annual Christmas Tour of Homes, organized by the Eureka Springs Preservation Society, returns in 2026 after a one-year pause.

Visitors can step inside participating historic residences decorated for the holidays, admire architectural details, and experience a side of Eureka Springs that isn’t normally open to the public.

The tour is self-guided, with docents at participating properties sharing information about the homes and their history.

Tickets are scheduled to go on sale November 6, 2026, at 9 AM.

💡 Worth the Plan Tip: This is an especially good event for couples, history lovers, and anyone who enjoys historic architecture. Wear comfortable shoes because Eureka Springs has plenty of hills and stairs.

3. Experience Christmas at the Crescent Hotel

The historic 1886 Crescent Hotel is one of Eureka Springs’ most recognizable landmarks, and Christmas brings an entirely different atmosphere to the property.

The hotel’s seasonal celebrations include its Christmas Tree Forest and special holiday activities. During select December weekends, the Crescent also hosts Santa’s Village, with festive family experiences such as holiday treats, crafts, and visits with Santa.

Even if you aren’t staying overnight, the Crescent can be a memorable stop during a Christmas visit.

For couples, a stay at the hotel offers a combination of historic charm and holiday atmosphere. Families can also enjoy the hotel’s seasonal events.

I’ve covered the hotel’s holiday experiences separately, including what to expect and whether it’s worth planning a visit.

4. Ride the Eureka Express Christmas Train

For families visiting Eureka Springs, the Eureka Express offers a different kind of holiday experience.

The Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Railway transforms into a festive Christmas setting, with train rides, hot cocoa, holiday stories, and opportunities for photos with Santa.

Santa storytime is scheduled throughout the experience, making this an especially appealing option for younger children.

A Christmas train ride is a fun way to add something memorable to your trip beyond downtown shopping and holiday lights.

Check the railway’s current schedule and ticket information before planning your visit.

5. Explore Downtown Eureka Springs at Christmas

One of the best things about visiting Eureka Springs during the holidays is that you don’t need a ticket to enjoy much of the atmosphere.

Downtown Eureka Springs is filled with independent shops, galleries, historic buildings, and restaurants. During December, festive decorations and illuminated storefronts make the winding streets even more inviting.

Spend an afternoon browsing for unique Christmas gifts, exploring the local shops, and stopping for a warm drink.

This is also a great destination for travelers who prefer a relaxed Christmas getaway rather than a packed schedule of ticketed attractions.

6. Enjoy the Hot Cocoa & Cookie Crawl

When: Friday, December 11, 2026, from 5–7 PM

If your idea of a great Christmas evening involves shopping, holiday treats, and festive downtown streets, the Hot Cocoa & Cookie Crawl is worth adding to your calendar.

Participating downtown businesses offer seasonal cookies and warm cocoa while visitors explore the shops and enjoy the Christmas atmosphere.

It’s a simple but charming holiday tradition, especially for couples, families, or groups of friends looking for a festive evening activity.

The event also makes December 11–13 another excellent weekend to visit Eureka Springs.

7. Visit Beautifully Decorated Inns During Christmas at the Inns

When: Saturday, December 12, 2026, from 1–5 PM

Eureka Springs is known for its distinctive accommodations, including historic inns, bed and breakfasts, and boutique hotels.

Christmas at the Inns, also called the Hearth & Hospitality Tour, gives visitors a chance to explore participating properties decorated for the holidays.

It’s a wonderful way to appreciate the town’s historic hospitality while gathering inspiration for a future getaway.

Tickets are listed at $30 per person for 2026.

💡 Worth the Plan Tip: If you enjoy unique accommodations, this is one of the more distinctive Eureka Springs Christmas events. It may also help you discover a favorite inn for your next visit.

8. See Downtown Storefronts Come Alive During Living Windows

When: Saturday, December 12, 2026, from 5–7 PM

Living Windows is one of the more unusual holiday traditions in Eureka Springs.

Instead of ordinary window displays, downtown storefronts become miniature holiday scenes featuring performers, festive characters, and Christmas-themed presentations.

As you walk through downtown, you can discover scenes that bring holiday stories and songs to life.

It’s an especially fun experience for families, but anyone who appreciates creative Christmas traditions will enjoy the atmosphere.

Pair Living Windows with Christmas at the Inns for a festive Saturday afternoon and evening.

9. Visit Santa in Basin Spring Park

When: Select Saturdays in December

Families traveling with children can add a stop at Basin Spring Park to their holiday itinerary.

Santa is scheduled to visit the downtown park on December 5, 12, and 19, giving children a chance to share their Christmas wishes and enjoy a classic holiday tradition.

Because the park is in the heart of downtown, this is an easy activity to combine with shopping, lunch, or sightseeing.

Check the official event calendar for updated appearance times before visiting.

10. Catch More Christmas Events Around Town

Eureka Springs has additional holiday traditions throughout December, so it’s worth checking the calendar for your travel dates.

The Victorian Silver Tea at the Crescent Hotel is scheduled for December 3, while December 11–13 includes additional seasonal entertainment, holiday concerts, and family activities.

On December 19, the Jinglin’ Jeep Parade brings decorated Jeeps and festive fun to downtown.

Even if you miss the first two major Christmas weekends, there may still be something special happening during your visit.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Eureka Springs for Christmas?

The best weekend depends on the type of Christmas experience you’re looking for.

December 4–6: Best for Classic Christmas Traditions

This is my top recommendation for a first Christmas visit to Eureka Springs.

You can enjoy the Christmas Parade of Lights on Friday evening, visit Santa or take a holiday train ride on Saturday, and tour historic homes decorated for Christmas.

It’s a great combination of festive atmosphere and experiences unique to Eureka Springs.

December 11–13: Best for Shopping and Festive Experiences

The second major Christmas weekend offers a different mix of activities.

The Hot Cocoa & Cookie Crawl, Christmas at the Inns, Living Windows, and seasonal Crescent Hotel festivities make this a strong choice for couples, families, and groups.

If you especially enjoy browsing shops and exploring unique historic properties, this might actually be your favorite weekend.

Other December Dates: Best for a More Relaxed Getaway

You don’t have to visit during a major event weekend to appreciate Eureka Springs at Christmas.

A quieter December stay can still include decorated downtown streets, local shopping, festive hotels, and time to explore the surrounding Ozark Mountains.

Just remember that some Christmas activities take place on specific dates, so check the schedule before booking.

Where to Stay in Eureka Springs for Christmas

One of the biggest reasons I’d recommend staying overnight is that Eureka Springs is particularly charming in the evening.

Instead of rushing home after an event, you can enjoy downtown after dark, relax at your hotel, and explore more of the town the next morning.

The Crescent Hotel: Best for a Historic Christmas Experience

The Crescent Hotel is my top pick for travelers who want their accommodations to feel like part of the holiday experience.

Its historic setting, Christmas decorations, and seasonal activities make it especially appealing for a festive getaway.

Downtown Inns and Boutique Hotels: Best for Exploring on Foot

If you want to spend most of your time shopping, dining, and enjoying downtown events, consider a hotel or inn near Main Street or Spring Street.

Eureka Springs has several distinctive historic properties, and staying close to downtown can make it easier to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere without moving your car for every activity.

Keep in mind that downtown streets can be steep, so check walking distances and parking arrangements before booking.

Cabins and Other Hotels: Best for Families and Longer Stays

For families, groups, or travelers who prefer more space, Eureka Springs also has cabins, vacation rentals, and hotels outside the historic downtown district.

These can be appealing for a longer getaway, especially if you plan to explore other nearby Ozark destinations.

Compare total costs, location, parking, and cancellation policies before choosing where to stay.

Extend Your Christmas Getaway to Branson

If you have an extra day or two, consider combining Eureka Springs with a visit to Branson, Missouri, approximately 1 to 1.5 hours away by car.

The two destinations offer very different Christmas experiences.

Eureka Springs is all about Victorian charm, historic homes, cozy inns, and small-town holiday traditions.

Branson, on the other hand, is known for its elaborate Christmas light displays, holiday shows, family attractions, and major seasonal entertainment.

You could spend a weekend exploring Eureka Springs and then add another day or two for Silver Dollar City’s An Old Time Christmas, festive performances, and other Branson attractions.

For more ideas, including which Christmas experiences are worth planning around, read my Best Christmas Things to Do in Branson 2026 guide.

💡 Worth the Plan Tip: If you’re visiting both destinations, plan at least one overnight stay in each area rather than trying to fit everything into a single day.

Tips for Planning a Christmas Trip to Eureka Springs

  • Book accommodations early. The December 4–6 and December 11–13 weekends have several major holiday events.
  • Bring comfortable walking shoes. Eureka Springs has steep streets, steps, and uneven sidewalks.
  • Dress for changing weather. December in the Ozarks can bring cold mornings, chilly evenings, and occasional winter weather.
  • Check event dates before traveling. Many Christmas experiences happen on only one day or weekend.
  • Plan for parking. Downtown can be busy during major events, so allow extra time.
  • Leave room for exploring. Some of the best Eureka Springs experiences come from wandering through the shops and historic streets without a strict schedule.

Is Eureka Springs Worth Visiting at Christmas?

If you love historic towns, cozy getaways, and Christmas traditions that feel a little different, Eureka Springs is absolutely worth considering.

This isn’t a destination built around giant theme parks or nonstop holiday entertainment. Its charm comes from the Victorian architecture, festive downtown streets, historic hotels, and special community traditions.

The Christmas Parade of Lights and Christmas Tour of Homes make the first weekend in December especially appealing, while the second weekend offers shopping, decorated inns, and creative holiday displays.

For couples, it’s a wonderful setting for a romantic December getaway. Families will find holiday activities and seasonal traditions to enjoy together.

And if you’re looking for a Christmas destination with plenty of character, Eureka Springs belongs on your list.

❤️ A Personal Note

Eureka Springs is one of those towns that stays with you long after your trip. I’ve always loved its winding streets, historic buildings, and the atmosphere of the Crescent Hotel.

It’s the kind of destination where the setting itself is part of the experience.

What appeals to me most about Christmas in Eureka Springs is that the holiday celebrations fit the personality of the town. Touring Victorian homes decorated for Christmas, browsing the downtown shops, and watching the lights glow along the historic streets all feel like natural extensions of what makes Eureka Springs special.

If you’re looking for a Christmas getaway that feels charming, memorable, and a little different, I think Eureka Springs is worth the plan.
