Planning a Christmas getaway to Galveston? Staying overnight gives you more time to enjoy ICE LAND, Holiday Lights, and the other seasonal attractions without rushing through everything in one day.

🧊 ICE LAND: Caribbean Christmas
The centerpiece of Christmas at Moody Gardens is ICE LAND: Caribbean Christmas, open November 21, 2026 through January 2, 2027.
More than two million pounds of ice are hand carved into colorful tropical scenes, including an underwater world filled with fish, rays, turtles, sharks, and other Caribbean inspired creations. The entire attraction is kept at just 9 degrees, creating quite a contrast to Christmas on Galveston Island.

Visitors can also ride the Giant Ice Slide and stop at Shiver’s Ice Bar for a festive drink.

💡 Worth the Plan Tip: Don’t underestimate 9 degrees. Moody Gardens provides parkas for ICE LAND, but I would still wear warm layers underneath and bring gloves and a hat, especially if you want to take your time exploring the displays.

✨ Walk Through More Than Two Million Holiday Lights
After ICE LAND, the Holiday Lights Trail, open November 21, 2026 through January 2, 2027, is one of the biggest reasons to visit Moody Gardens at Christmas.
The mile long trail follows Offatts Bayou and features more than two million lights, illuminated holiday scenes, and views of Galveston Bay.
Unlike a drive through Christmas light display, this one is designed to be explored on foot. The lights are also surrounded by several of the festival’s other activities, so it is easy to combine the trail with ice skating, the Arctic Slide, or a holiday treat.

⛸️ Ice Skating, the Arctic Slide & More Holiday Fun
There is plenty to do beyond ICE LAND and the lights.
Outdoor ice skating is part of the Holiday Lights experience, while the Arctic Slide adds another winter activity. Younger kids can also take a ride on the Kiddie Train through a portion of the Holiday Lights trail.

Moody Gardens also brings Christmas to its theaters with seasonal 3D and 4D movies, including Scrooge 4D and Rudolph 4D.
You don’t necessarily need to do every activity. For a first visit, I would build the evening around ICE LAND and Holiday Lights, then add whichever of the smaller attractions sounds most fun for your group.
🌟 See A Very Electric Christmas
There is something completely new at Moody Gardens for Christmas 2026.
A Very Electric Christmas is a live holiday production from Moody Gardens and Lightwire Theater. The glow in the dark show follows Max, a young bird who gets blown off course and ends up at the North Pole, with the story told through music, illuminated puppetry, and theatrical effects.
The show runs December 19, 2026 through January 2, 2027, so it will not be available during the first few weeks of Holiday in the Gardens.
One nice bonus is that each show ticket includes admission to Holiday Lights, something to keep in mind before purchasing your other attraction tickets.
🎅 Breakfast with Santa & Holiday Dining
For families visiting closer to Christmas, Breakfast with Santa is offered on select mornings at the Moody Gardens Hotel.
The 2026 dates are December 12, 13, and December 19 through 23. The event includes a family buffet breakfast and time for photos with Santa.
Moody Gardens also offers special dining for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day, along with dining at Shearn’s Prime Seafood & Steaks.
If one of these experiences is important to your trip, I would make reservations in advance rather than waiting until you arrive.

🎟️ Which Moody Gardens Christmas Tickets Should You Buy?
Holiday Lights admission includes the Holiday Lights Trail and evening ice skating. ICE LAND requires a separate ticket.
If you want to experience several holiday attractions, the Holiday Evening Pass bundles multiple experiences, including Holiday Lights, ice skating, and the Arctic Slide.
Visiting A Very Electric Christmas? Your show ticket already includes admission to Holiday Lights.
🏨 Staying at Moody Gardens for Christmas
You don’t have to stay overnight to experience Christmas at Moody Gardens, but staying onsite can turn it into an easy Galveston holiday getaway.
Moody Gardens is offering two particularly relevant hotel packages for 2026.
The Lights & Ice Package includes an overnight stay, ICE LAND, Holiday Lights, ice skating, and covered parking. The Holiday Value Package includes an overnight stay, Value Day passes to the attractions, and covered parking. Family packages can also include a Holiday Kids Experience with an early guided Aquarium tour on select dates and a surprise gift pack each night.
⭐ My Pick: If the Christmas attractions are the main reason for your stay, check the Lights & Ice Package directly through Moody Gardens first. Since the package bundles the hotel with holiday attraction admission, compare the total package price with booking a regular room and tickets separately.

💙 One Last Thought
Christmas at Moody Gardens combines things you don’t normally expect to find in the same holiday outing.
You can walk through a Caribbean world carved from ice, step outside to millions of Christmas lights along the water, go ice skating, and add a holiday show or special Christmas event depending on when you visit.
For a first visit, I would make ICE LAND and Holiday Lights the priorities and choose the rest based on what sounds most fun for your group.
If you’re coming from outside Galveston, staying overnight can also make it easier to enjoy the Christmas attractions without trying to fit everything into a single evening.
